MY WORK
My approach is deeply rooted in holistic practices, weaving together indigenous wisdom and African Indigenous spirituality in every aspect of my teachings. I combine breathwork, body activation, organic movement, and meditation to create a sacred space for you to reconnect with your true essence. Grounded in a trauma-informed and decolonial perspective, I understand the transformative power of these practices on a deep level. Through my guidance, you’ll begin a journey of self-discovery and healing, learning to embrace and embody your authentic self.
MY STORY
My path to yoga began out of a deep personal need – an urgent desire for connection, empowerment, and a space to heal in a way that felt true to me. Throughout my life, as I moved between different places and cultures, I quickly realized how hard it was to find wellness spaces that resonated with my experiences. Yoga studios, especially those in predominantly white communities, often felt alienating. While well-intentioned, many of these spaces lack cultural sensitivity and a trauma-informed approach. As a Woman of Color, I often felt out of place in environments that didn’t honor my identity or speak to my experiences.
Over time, my awareness of this disconnect grew, as did my understanding of the deep trauma I was carrying from my past. The more I practiced yoga, the more I recognized how deeply my past experiences had affected my body, mind, and spirit. I realized that true healing and decolonization could only happen by stepping away from spaces that did not honor my identity. I had to forge my own path – one where yoga was not just a physical practice, but a transformative journey for the body, mind, and soul.
Becoming a mother shifted my perspective even further. As my responsibilities as a parent grew, I found that yoga at home became more than just a convenience – it became my sanctuary. The time and space for self-care, once so easy to overlook, became precious. My home practice helped me face old wounds, heal in profound ways, and awaken the strength I’d kept hidden for so long. It became a powerful tool not only for overcoming my past but for stepping into a new phase of empowerment and self-discovery.
It was during this time that I realized I wasn’t just seeking healing for myself. I saw a profound need – especially for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color – to create spaces that honored their diverse stories, culture, and lived experiences. I wanted to offer others the same sanctuary I had found in my own practice. This realization became the seed for WATA Movement. As a Black woman, I understand how yoga and wellness spaces often fail to meet the needs of marginalized communities. Black, Indigenous, and People of Color are still rarely represented, and yoga, once a deeply spiritual and cultural practice, is often appropriated in ways that strip it of its true meaning. The yoga world continues to overlook these issues.
With certifications in Hatha Vinyasa Yoga, Kemetic Yoga, Pregnancy Yoga, and continued studies in Kemetic Reiki, African Spirituality, and Tantric Yoga, I bring a rich, multifaceted understanding of yoga and wellness that transcends physical practice. I am deeply committed to creating trauma-informed, decolonizing, culturally sensitive yoga experiences that honor your body’s wisdom and support your spiritual growth.
As a registered member and continuing education provider of Yoga Alliance, I strive to uphold the highest standards in my teachings, fully aware of the critiques surrounding the organization. I am committed to lifelong learning and continuously expanding my knowledge to offer practices that foster healing, growth, and empowerment. Through WATA Movement, I share the wisdom I’ve gained from my own journey – what has helped me heal, transform, and move toward liberation.
