Moving Through Grief

Grief is an inescapable part of being humxn. At some point, we all experience loss – not just through the passing of a loved one, but in so many other ways. The childhood we never had. The love that never came back. The dream that slipped through our fingers. The version of ourselves we had to let go of. The job we lost when we needed stability the most. The friendship that slowly faded, leaving an empty space where connection once thrived. Grief is not only about death; it is about change, about endings, about the spaces in our hearts that still ache for what could have been.

And yet, we live in a world that tells us to move on quickly, to be productive, to “get over it.” But grief is not something to conquer – it is something to tend to. In many Indigenous traditions, grief is not meant to be carried alone. It is held in community, expressed through ritual, movement, and shared mourning. When we allow grief to move through us, we create space for healing.

At its core, grief exists because of love. We grieve because we have loved deeply – because something or someone mattered to us. And though it is painful, grief also has the capacity to shape us – to soften, to deepen, to transform. This is why we turn to practice. Join me for a 'Moving Through Grief' yoga practice here. Yoga, movement, and breath remind us that we can hold our sorrow without being consumed by it. That we can make space for grief without drowning in its weight. That even in loss, we are still here, still breathing.

Sundari’s new talk is a meaningful listen for anyone navigating their grief journey or seeking a deeper understanding of how to walk with grief.

I am honored to have collaborated with Sundari Malcolm, a dedicated grief, birth, and death doula, to bring you a powerful talk on how to walk with grief and support yourself and your communities.

If you would like to learn more about supporting yourself and others in Grief, by applying ancient Indigenous spiritual techniques, have a look at A Healing Doula Academy. Founder Sundari Malcolm is offering all friends and members of the WATA Movement community 20% off of enrollment to this beautiful Grief & Death Doula virtual training program. Grief work is about more than just processing loss –  it’s about honoring our feelings, allowing space for healing, and learning tools to cope with the emotional waves that come with it.

With Love,
Dinah
