The Journey of Ra

𓂀 There’s a lot of misunderstanding around Kemetic Yoga, Kemetic spirituality, and what people call Egyptology. What we’ve learned about Egypt and Egyptology is not only whitewashed but also gives us a very narrow understanding of how the ancient Egyptians – Kemetians – Africans actually lived and viewed life, who they were, and how the spiritual concepts, the healing techniques spread from there and influenced the African continent and the world. We often have this mystical idea of pharaohs, gold, and the underworld, but in reality, Kemetic spirituality is deeply connected to humxn existence. It’s not just about grand myths – it’s about everyday life, the struggles, the cycles, and the balance we all navigate.

Beyond the physical, there’s so much deep spiritual wisdom embodied in the postures practiced. Kemetic Yoga is not a new trend; it was reinvented and developed in the 20th century (as were almost all the other popular yoga styles, such as Ashtanga Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Bikram Yoga, etc.) The initial articulators of Egyptian Yoga, Smai Tawi, African Yoga, and Kemetic Yoga are Yirser Ra Hotep, Dr. Asar Hapi, and Master Babacar Khan. The spiritual concept of Kemetic Yoga is rooted in Kemetic spirituality, which is one of the oldest spiritual systems in recorded humxn history/herstory/ourstory.

Ra represents the sun. And the sun never gets tired of its cycle – rising and setting, rising and setting, over and over again. In The Journey of Ra (by Dr. Muata Ashby) we practice, we tap into that rhythm, repeating the same flow just like Ra does in his eternal journey.

In the Kemetic/Ancient Egyptian/Ancient African creation story, every morning, Ra rises in the east – knowing he’ll have to battle Set and the low vibrating forces trying to stop his journey. But he shows up anyway – steady, unstoppable, full of purpose.

If you’re ready to explore both the physical and spiritual sides of Kemetic Yoga, come join the journey. You can start practicing anytime with me online. 𓂀
